For women

“I don’t know who I am anymore.”
You’re not the only one who has said it.

It’s what we hear most. Women tell us, “I don’t know what I actually want.” “I want to rediscover things about me that are true.” “I’m operating in a fuzzy middle.” If you hear yourself in any of these, nothing is wrong with you, and you are not starting from scratch. This is a place to find yourself again.

18 of 20women Laura recently worked with said some version of that first sentence. Almost none of them walked in saying it.
Who am I, really? An invitation from Laura

What we hear from women

What women are really longing for

These come from the hundreds of women we’ve walked with over the last 17 years. Most arrive worn out, pulled in too many directions, questioning who they are and whether they’re enough, unsure of their purpose, quietly lonely, or stuck between one season and the next. Underneath it all, one of these longings is usually on the table within the first hour.

Underneath it all

“I want to know that I am enough.”

It usually shows up dressed as a scheduling problem or a career problem, and solving the surface problem never quiets it. Underneath everything else, this is often the real work.

“I want to be confident in who I am instead of becoming an amoeba into what is expected of me in the role I’m in. It’s exhausting.” Jocelyn

Permission to want

“I need permission to choose myself.”

After years of putting everyone else first, choosing herself can feel selfish, even wrong. She often already senses what she wants. What she needs is permission to want it, and to take her own life seriously.

“I don’t trust myself to be in charge of myself.” Heidi

Clarity on purpose and calling

“I want to know what I truly desire in life, not what others think I should want.”

Her sense of direction has been handed to her by a job title, a season of parenting, or other people’s expectations, and it is running out. She wants to know who she is beneath all the roles, and what she was made for.

“I’ve lost a sense of my own identity. I have devoted 80% of my energy to my family the past 35 years. What do I really want?” Dee

A plan and a structure

“I long for a rhythm that sustains me.”

She is caring for children, aging parents, and a job at once, and her life has split into pieces that never quite fit together. The first things to go are the ones that restore her. What she wants is a plan and a structure that hold her whole life together.

“I want direction and purpose. I want to know who I am and how to use that. I want the excitement of knowing what I’m working toward.” Abby

To be truly known

“I desire to be known, not just needed.”

She is surrounded by people and still lonely, because nearly every relationship runs one direction. She longs to be seen and valued for who she is, not only for what she does.

“I grew up knowing that I was loved, but not valued. I want to be seen, acknowledged, and valued for who I really am.” Heather

Strategic discernment

“I want to navigate this season well.”

She can feel a change coming, in her work, her family, or her calling, and she does not want to drift into it or rush it. She wants to see her options clearly and choose the right path at the right time.

“How do I not allow my fear of the unknown keep me from moving into my desire for positive change?” Genna

What we see, over and over

“I have always been floundering around with no value. Now I feel like I have a foundation I can build on.”

Tonya

The quiet fear is that if you look closely, there will not be much there, just a woman who got very good at adapting. Our Guides find the opposite every time. Your gifts have been at work for years, at your job and in how you love the people closest to you, and once they have names, decisions get much easier to make.
